A very welcome funding boost from local funder LGA Foundation will help secure the future of the Silver Lining Social and allow our much-loved community event to expand from once to twice a month. We are so grateful!

The Silver Lining Social offers older people a friendly and welcoming space to meet others, enjoy entertainment, take part in games and quizzes, and share lunch and refreshments together. To ensure the group is accessible to everyone, both the social activities and transport service are provided free of charge, helping those who may struggle to use public transport attend regularly.

The sessions are dementia friendly, and carers, family members and friends are always welcome to come along and take part.

The impact of the social has been clear, with many attendees describing it as an invaluable source of companionship and connection. For some, it is the only social activity they attend each month.

We are are excited to expand the service following a significant rise in demand, with attendance growing from just eight people a year ago to more than 24 participants each month, with new people joining us every month.

From September, a second Silver Lining Social will launch at the Lighthouse Project in Byker, creating new opportunities for intergenerational activities involving local children and young people’s groups.
